Aliette from Paris
Let your eye be caught by Parisian artist, Aliette’s illustrations. Her works intimately depict natural and domestic subjects, such as a sleeping kitten, a child releasing balloons into the sky, or a plush rabbit fondly pegged to a clothes-line.
Aliette’s works are rendered using monochrome techniques punctuated by elements of colour, to create works which are, in a wonderfully delicate way, both wistful and playful. Although they can be presented as stand-alone works, we find that they are particularly well-suited to combination as a series.

Treasured possessions – a gift for our subscribers We all remember the treasured possessions of our childhood - a dog-eared book bearing the biscuity marks of affectionate gnawing; a doll whose limbs have seen better days, or a chipped metal tractor handed down generations. These treasures, as they become physically weaker over time, grow ever stronger as symbols of the love that has been lavished upon them. As parents, we probably feel their emotional power even more acutely than our children.
We would like you to send in a photograph of your child’s most treasured possession, and describe to us in 25 words or less what it means to you and your child. Our favourite will be featured in the next issue of Papier –Mache Magazine (hyper text link if possible – address is http://www.papier-mache.com.au/index.html ) and will receive over $800 worth of art works from Kindergallery. Three runners up will also receive an art work. We love our artists, and think that these works, like a treasured possession, will become a focal point for your children’s imagination and remain a lasting symbol of childhood. You will also need to become a subscriber of Papier-Mache Magazine to enter. Please submit entries in jpeg format (at least 72 dpi) to fiona@kindergallery.com before 17 October 2009.

Shinzi Katoh is a Japanese Zakka artist of worldwide acclaim. “Zakka” (from the Japanese for “many things”) is the art of seeing the savvy in the ordinary and mundane. Having its origins as a design and fashion phenomenon in Japan, its popularity has spread throughout Asia and the world. Shinzi Katoh’s designs capture moments of everyday ordinariness, like the slow train labouring over a hill, playing hide and seek in the forest or blowing bubbles. His work goes to the heart of the warmth and delight in such moments. By combining such moments with intriguing textual elements, his work propagates happiness. No collection of art for young people is complete without Shinzi Katoh’s Zakka prints for children. Kindergallery is proud to offer his extensive range at www.kindergallery.com

On a cold teutonic morning in May, Meredith Gaston put on her bonnet, packed up her easel and brushes and set off for Berlin Airport. She was hopping on a plane to Sydney for a few weeks of warm weather and painting. What fun!
As usual, she was accompanied by her good friends, Mr Moose and Mrs Swan, who were cuddled up cosily in her imagination. They loved each other's company in that fantasy land, Mr Moose and Mrs Swan, but by the time the plane landed and Meredith arrived at her studio, they were good and ready to wake up, skip down her arm, flow colourfully out of her brush and drape themselves over the waiting canvas. Even more fun!
Meredith's new paintings and watercolours, now available from Kindergallery, express the intimacy of this delightful couple and their friends. Whether enjoying a cup of tea together in the kitchen, or dreaming of each other across great oceans, they are always connected. We hope you love them as much as we do.

A mysterious princess calls
Princess Pearl, whose real identity is shrouded in mystery, lives in an imaginary world which is beautiful and good. Every so often she appears at Kindergallery to see how the real world is getting along. And we are pleased to announce that her royal highness has recently stopped by, bearing gifts of great beauty.
Princess Pearl’s collages offer an insight into a mythological place. Motifs referencing literary sources, such as Alice in Wonderland, are coupled with folkloric prints, and planes of colour are assembled with pattern and animal forms. In these dreamscapes Princess Pearl offers anyone, young or old, escape into a world to marvel at, and a place where life is nurtured and restored.

After the birth of his daughter, award winning Sydney artist Gav Barbey was inspired to create a body of work that could be enjoyed by children of all ages. By pouring and splashing high gloss acrylic paint straight from the tube, Gav creates raised, tactile impressions inspired by the living world that flies, runs, crawls, slithers and swims, and the living machines that drive, fly and sail around us. Kindergallery is honoured to offer a selection of these original paint-pour acrylic on canvas works by Gav Barbey. View the collection for yourself at www.kindergallery.com

Full fathom five thy sea-horse flies,
Of precious silk and linen made,
Those are pearls with sleeping eyes:
Nothing of them that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.

Kindergallery announces new treasures from the deep sea, wrought by New York artist Tamar Mogendorff. These hand stitched sea-horses and pearls-in-shell are made from silk, linen and vintage fabrics, and create beautiful room sculptures for children. We are excited to share new screenprints from one of our long time favourite Kindergallery artist’s, Lorena Siminovich. The “Animal Alphabet” A to Z Print is endearing with its mix of fauna in appealing colours. “Jungle Friends Gocco”, a Japanese screen print printed on curly maple microveneer offers a very unique gift. “Jungle Friends” works are limited edition prints, personally signed by Lorena.

June 2008
Kindergallery is pleased to offer three beautiful screenprinted collages by Ana Ventura. Ana’s work evocatively combine modern decorative and design elements with figures which, in their composition and facial expressions, are reminiscent of medieval Byzantine art. The results are exquisite. Ana assembles the screenprints using an acid-free glue, and finishes the works with a wooden frame.

Winter’s cosy cold is approaching, which means that migrating season is upon us! This is an exciting time for Kindergallery. Last month, we were especially honoured by the new arrival of a flock of exquisite creatures, at the end of a long journey south from Tamar Mogendorff’s stitchworks in New York City. Soon they will be joined by a gorgeous Tamar stork and an equally beautiful peacock, now available for pre-order. Like the rest of the Tamar range, these dolls are hand-stitched from linens, mohair wool, cotton, tweed, pashmina and other fabrics. As hangings, wall mountings or room sculptures, they provide unique decorating possibilities, radiating extraordinary emotional power. This is also the time of year when Kindergallery sets out to search for the latest artistic creations for children from around the world. Selected representatives of our herd will be travelling north to Berlin’s warmer continental climate to forage for aesthetic nourishment. We look forward to their return and will be sure to pass on to you the special treats they bring back.

Farewell 2007 and welcome 2008!
This is an opportune time to congratulate Kristin Loffer Theiss on receiving a top ranking for her Flights of Fantasy mobiles in "Mother and Baby" Magazines 'Best Toys of 2007'. The limited edition hand-made mobiles consist of a parade of four cheeky, joyful bird characters made from wool felt and cotton in vibrant colours or black and white. Also, Lorena Siminovich's collages were featured in the Melbourne Age's top 10 designs for children in 2007. Well done Lorena!
