Meredith Gaston
Albert Camus said that artists simply reproduce the first few images that touched them as children or that first accessed their hearts. Australian artist Meredith Gaston, knows that this is true for her. She is still enchanted by birds up in trees, people interacting with animals, houses tucked up on hillsides and, of course, faces and the way they communicate with other faces. Images like this, which recur in Meredith's paintings and drawings, are about childhood happiness and the celebration of the magic of the everyday. Her simple forms, bold colour and naïve lines are instantly enchanting and evocative. Indeed, it is difficult to imagine a more enriching imaginary landscape for a young mind.
Meredith works primarily with acrylic on canvas, but her Kindergallery collection also includes recently composed watercolour drawings, watercolour paintings and acrylic paintings on linen.
She is currently based in Berlin, where she has set up a studio in an old attic space in beautiful and buzzing Kreuzberg. And she plans to set off on more travels to gather images to draw and paint in the coming years, “to keep representing and documenting my life as an experience of unexplainable magic and beauty.
