Kahaus
Kahaus is a Sydney- based design studio specialising in steel sculptures. Sara Haddad, the owner of Kahaus, grew up in a rambling Mediterranean villa in semi-rural north-western Sydney, where her mother’s painting and pottery studio formed a creative hub which Sara and her four siblings were encouraged to inhabit and explore. Sara’s father worked in steel fabrication, creating a wide range of articles, from sculpture and furniture to mailboxes and ingenious toys – including a life-size train (complete with tracks and electric engine) which provided hours of fun. In this environment, Sara’s appreciation for the beauty and versatility of steel as an artistic material was forged.
Inspired by the concrete sunscreens of American mid-century desert architecture, and graphic artforms including Japanese textile design and Polynesian tapa, Kahaus Steelscapes interpret organic elements in stylised form in steel to create original art that is both decorative and functional.
Kindergallery offers an exclusive range of Kahaus Steelscapes, made in Sydney with Australian steel, featuring a range of graphic motifs in brilliant hues designed to appeal to children. These wall sculptures also offer the advantages of being durable and magnetic, so they not only look exquisite, but are perfect for hanging all sorts of household and nursery paraphernalia as well. All Kahaus Steelscapes undergo rigorous testing by Sara’s five-year-old daughter Sofia, who also happens to be her creative advisor.
