Gav Barbey
Award winning Sydney artist Gav Barbey has enjoyed a successful career as an exhibiting artist for more than twenty years. In addition to his regular solo and group exhibitions, he has worked in film, theatre and as a commercial artist. Recently Gav brought all of those disciplines to bear in his New York “Ice Works” exhibition, which combined visual art with live performance, video and spoken word elements.
After the birth of his daughter, Gav was inspired to create a body of work that could be enjoyed by children of all ages. He began by pouring and splashing high gloss acrylic paint straight from the tube to create raised, tactile impressions inspired by the living world that flies, runs, crawls, slithers and swims, and the living machines that drive, fly and sail around us. Gav has often given friends and family works of art as presents for their babies and young children, who have since become some of his most valued critics and fans.
Gav is currently in the process of creating “Moveables”, a 65 part children’s animation series based on these original canvases, to be released in 2009. He has also written and illustrated the children’s book, “Little Seed” (published by Pan Macmillan).
Kindergallery is honoured to offer a selection of these original paint-pour acrylic on canvas works by Gav Barbey.
